A flash back
General manager Henning Kirkegaard is a graduate engineer M.Sc., B.Sc. and prior to founding Dansk Scanning A/S in 1995 he worked for Vølund and Rambøll - both situated in Esbjerg.
With Dansk Scanning A/S he realized his idea of making archives available 24 hours a day using the internet.
-In the beginning we were only my wife, Susanne and myself, Henning Kirkegaard remembers. We thought it would be nice to move to the country with our little company and in 1997 we bought an old farm in Billum, which we restored. The farm also housed Dansk Scanning A/S.
The rush
At the end of the year of 2006 Dansk Scanning A/S won the tender of the Court Administration of Denmark, which consisted of the digitalization of 30 million pages for the court districts before the end of March 2008 - as well as hosting all court documents from all of Denmark on the company mainservers, a total of 60 million pages.
- Digitalization has many advantages, but first and foremost saving money. Henning Kirkegaard points out that a study from Deloitte shows, that Denmark saves about a million danish krones a day by digitalizing the court documents.
This huge order - the largest in the history of Dansk Scanning A/S - required an increase of the workforce with more than 200%. In no time the company grew from 25 to 70 employees.
This directly lead to the decision of moving the company to Esbjerg, since there was no room for further expansions in Billum. Therefore in the beginning of 2007 Dansk Scanning A/S moved to a rented building in Esbjerg. In the spring of 2008 Dansk Scanning A/S created a permanent night shift to accommodate the continuing increase in employees - now more than 100.
The future
A new property, at the area of Lyshøjen in Kjersing, Esbjerg, has been purchased potentially for a new domicile.
The area is situated close to the highway.
The domicile is planned to be 3.000 m² of which 2.000 m² are reserved for scanning facilities and changing rooms. The remainder is for meeting rooms, cantine and offices.
